Taking the Dyslexia Certificate course with a group

If you are thinking of studying the Dyslexia Certificate course as a small group, we will be happy to help and advise. Study groups like this provide a really valuable activity, giving opportunities for group learning and discussion, in addition to individual study. Your group may be parents, teachers, classroom assistants, learning support assistants, or any other interested people. The more we learn about dyslexia and strategies which help, the more we are able to support dyslexic children and teenagers in our homes, schools and colleges!

Study sessions

As you can see from the Course Outline, there are five Modules, each of which contains sufficient material for two or three study sessions and discussions. This will provide material for a course of 10 to 15 sessions. Students with an Internet connection at home (or access to the Internet via their library or college) would also be able to use the Online Discussion Group. However, this is not essential for satisfactory completion of the course if it is being led by you, as there will nodoubt be plenty of opportunities for discussion!

10% Group Discount

The cost of the course includes everything - registration, course materials, CD-Rom, audiotape, and the grading of each student's five Assignments - except for the course text book (see below).

Direct Learning will give a 10% educational discount for a group order of three or more students for the course. If any further students join your group at a later date, a 10% discount will be given provided that the order is within four months of your original order.

Group orders should be made by check/cheque or Banker's Order using the Group Order Form provided, along with the Students' Details form. We will send the course packages to each individual student's home address. If you order ten or more course packages, we will include a free course package (including assignment grades and a final certificate) for the group leader.

Invoice

If payment is to be made through your school, school district or local authority, we will issue an invoice if you complete the Invoice Request form and provide us with a list of students on the Students' Details form. A receipt is included with every group order if you do not wish to have an invoice.

The course text book

Students will also need to buy the course text book. This is normally obtained online through Amazon, but you may be able to get a discount by ordering in bulk through a local bookshop. The cost is approximately US$16 or UK£12.

Presentation of Certificates

On completion, the Certificates will be posted to you for presentation to your students, or to the individual students if you wish.

Grading and feedback about Assignments

The five Assignments are sent to Direct Learning for grading and feedback - normally by the students themselves using email. However, if any of your students do not have an Internet connection, their Assignment can be sent by mail/post in a batch. It is important that each student's Assignments always have their registration number attached, and I would be grateful if you could emphasize this to them.
