THE WORLD OF
|
What is the World of Dyslexia? The World of Dyslexia is a central, interactive database for dyslexia. It is used by everyone who is affected by this disability.
Teachers who are searching for techniques, strategies and methods to enable dyslexic children and teenagers to reach their full potential will find a wealth of information here.
Parents are often confused about how to support their dyslexic child or teenager. In spite of the publicity about dyslexia nowadays, there are still many schools who do not have a proper policy in place to guide their staff. The Dyslexia Parents Resource provides the advice and techniques which parents can use at home.
Most dyslexic adults went to school before all the current knowledge about dyslexia was available to teachers in schools. The result is that they have not learned strategies to adapt to situations where they are required to read large amounts of written material and write reports.
College becomes a particular problem when a young dyslexic man or woman has reached the level of academic study. Reading lengthy books and planning and writing well-argued essays is a real problem.
The great majority of dyslexic children who are recognized as being dyslexic in school are assisted by a classroom assistant or teaching assistant. Unfortunately, many classroom assistants are not trained teachers, and they need the understanding, techniques and straegies to help the dyslexic children in their care.
An important symptom of dyslexia is difficulties with visual memory. This means that a dyslexic child has to try to read most words from the sounds their letters make, for example: c-a-t says 'cat'. Learning the letter sounds is one of the most important skiils that a dyslexic child can acquire.
The World of Dyslexia publishes a free bi-monthly newsletter, with a wide range of news, teaching techniques, letters, research and the latest teaching technology.
The free Dyslexia Online Magazine contains articles which have been specially written by respected authors in the field of dyslexia, as well as by parents and dyslexic adults.
